A father’s search for something better
When Sudhir Shah’s son developed eczema in college, his dermatologist recommended a steroid cream. But while it helped relieve the symptoms, Sudhir wanted to see if there was a healthier, more sustainable approach - one that supported the skin itself rather than simply managing flare-ups with harsh chemicals.
Raised in India with the principles of Ayurveda, holding a Master’s degree in molecular biology (plus an MBA from Yale), and as a lifelong believer in a plant-based diet, Sudhir began researching botanical ingredients that could nourish and restore the skin’s natural function.
Working from the family kitchen, he blended small batches of creams and sent them to his son to test. Each formula was refined based on how the skin reacted, until he found one that worked.
The results were transformational
The improvement wasn’t immediate. But with each iteration the itching subsided, the skin softened and healed, and the eczema gradually cleared up.
Those first formulas quickly spread beyond the family. Friends began asking for bottles of their own - for eczema and other skin concerns. As demand grew, Sudhir rented a small laboratory where he could continue researching, refining formulas, and developing new ones.
OM BOTANICAL IS FOUNDED
From a kitchen to our own facility
In 2011, Sudhir founded OM Botanical, named for the balanced, plant-based philosophy that had shaped his research. As the company grew, he built a dedicated laboratory and manufacturing facility in Apex, North Carolina, where we continue to formulate, manufacture, and package every product today.
Controlling every step of the process allows us to maintain the same standards that guided those first batches in the family kitchen: careful ingredient selection, small-batch mixing, and uncompromising attention to every product we make.
A different starting point
The original formula solved a problem, but it also reinforced something Sudhir had begun to believe through years of research: healthy skin doesn't come from simply correcting symptoms. It comes from supporting the skin's natural ability to protect, repair, and renew itself.
That distinction continues to shape every product we make. Rather than formulating for the quickest possible result, we formulate for long-term skin health - creating products that are gentle enough for everyday use, designed to work together for simpler routines, and built around supporting the skin instead of overwhelming it.
